Smith Senior Living Trustee since 2009
“Organizational transformation is the key to the vitality of every enterprise, for-profit or not-for-profit,” states Karyn Pettigrew, who established her own consulting practice in 2002 to help companies and individuals develop leadership skills and marketing strategies.
For 15 years, she led the marketing programs for Peoples Energy, the Illinois State Lottery and Quaker Oats Company. “As times changed, each of these large organizations sought ways to make themselves more relevant, more appealing to their core customers. They also set out to redefine and position themselves to attract new ones,” she explains. “So I truly appreciate how the trustees and executive leaders of Smith communities have handled those same challenges.”
Bob Berghoff, her neighbor in Beverly, recruited Karyn to join the Board for Smith Senior Living. “While I was very involved with national movements and Chicago-based organizations, I appreciated the opportunity to get involved closer to home,” she says.
Pettigrew also serves on the Board of Directors of Redmoon Theater, and for many years was a trustee of Chicago Commons and Reading in Motion. She served on the board of directors for the Chicago Chapter of NAWBO for four years and received its President’s Award. The Women’s Leadership Exchange recently named her “Growth Guru.”
Pettigrew earned her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College.
